Public Relations

Picture
It's not easy to get attention these days. You're competing with flashy news like the latest celebrity blunder. Reporters are more harried than ever. They have less time and space to tell a story, and more people clamoring for their attention. Then there are blogs, Twitter and Facebook.

It can make your head spin.

You need someone who knows the media, who knows how to get results. I have nearly 20 years of experience as a journalist and public relations professional. I work with you to figure out the best strategy for you. Is it a spot on your local TV station? A story in USA Today? A Twitter feed?

I seek out the compelling aspects of your business. Then, I give journalists the information they need, in the format they are looking for, to persuade them to tell your story.

So that you can get the positive exposure you're looking for.

Crisis Communications

Suppose you have to recall one of your products. Or your local newspaper runs a negative story about a service you offer. Do you have a plan in place to respond quickly and effectively?

Most companies think it won’t happen to them. When bad news hits, they just hope it will go away. But it won’t. And as news spreads instantly through blogs, Twitter and Facebook, your reputation is more at risk than ever.

I have worked in crisis communications for more than a decade, helping companies prepare for PR crises and executing strategies to preserve their reputation. The last thing you want is to be scrambling in a crisis. I can develop a comprehensive plan tailored to your company, so that your communications are ready to go when you need them. I can also jump in during a crisis and help you respond.

Don’t wait until a crisis hits; it will be too late.

Natural disasters
As part of crisis communications, I also conduct proactive outreach around natural disasters. For instance, a hurricane is coming and a dialysis company needs to let its patients know when and where they can receive urgent medical care. With my background as a volunteer and employee at the American Red Cross, I have secured extensive local and national coverage around such issues.

If you need a proactive approach to crisis, I can help.

Writing

Picture
Writing is not one-size-fits-all.

I adapt my style to your situation - whether you require a formal tone or a laid-back approach. As a former newspaper reporter, I know how to seek out the information necessary to make a compelling story, so that you don't just talk to your audience, but you engage them. This means taking a different voice for different groups. You don't talk to executives the way you talk to readers of an entertainment blog. I work with you to find the right style for your audience.

I believe that people want to read about topics they can relate to. They want to know how something will affect them. In every piece I write, I look for ways to engage readers. I look for the financial or emotional impact.

My philosophy is that less is more, especially when you are competing for people's attention.
